After The Sunshine

After the sunshine comes the rain,
After the summer, winter again,
And after the longest day the hours slip away,
After the sunshine comes the rain.
After the laughter come the tears,
After the days of hope come the fears,
After the dreams we planned – tossed to the changing winds,
After the laughter come the tears.
Never tomorrow, never a morn,
Never a dream that’s not been torn,
Never a setting sun that’s not been rained upon,
Never tomorrow, never a morn.
There’s a raging in my heart, no peace within my breast,
Winter lives within me,
And she will not let me rest.
After the stillness comes the storm,
After the starry night, the chill of morn,
After the days of song, the nights, so cold and long,
After the stillness comes the storm.
There are clouds on my horizon, thunder in the sky,
Freezing winds chill my heart,
And these may be raindrops in my eyes.
After the sunshine comes the rain,
After the summer, winter again,
After the longest day the hours slip away,
After the sunshine comes the rain,
Comes the rain,
Here comes the rain.
There is an old maxim "every cloud has a silver lining". To keep the universe in equilibrium, there needs to be a counter balance - this song is it. For every silver lining there is a cloud!
